Powerless Series Review

Powerless
It's been a couple of months since I’ve immersed myself in a true fantasy, so diving back into this genre was a refreshing change from the RomComs and Historical Fiction I’ve been reading lately. Initially, Powerless felt somewhat repetitive, reminding me a bit too much of The Serpent and the Wings of Night and even The Hunger Games. However, once I got about a quarter of the way through, the story really started to hook me, especially as I became more invested in the characters, particularly Kai and his brother Kitt.
Paedyn is a fun, strong, and stubborn female character, qualities that make her stand out in a world where she has to be resilient to survive. But after reading Throne of Glass earlier this year, I found myself missing the depth and complexity of characters like Celaena Sardothien. That said, the first half of Powerless was more of a 3.5-star read for me. But as the world-building and character development picked up, I found myself devouring the rest of the book. The dialogue did feel a bit cheesy at times, but overall, I really enjoyed it.
Powerful
I always find it challenging to get into a short novella when you already know the fate of the main character. Powerful was an enjoyable and quick read, but it felt like it ended just as it was starting to get interesting. I wish there had been another 50-100 pages to flesh out the story. Also, I was hoping to see some of the characters transition into Reckless, but that didn’t quite happen.
Reckless
If you love a slow burn, then Reckless is definitely for you. I loved getting to see more of Kai and Paedyn's relationship develop in this installment. Without giving away any spoilers, I’ll just say that the ending leaves you hanging on the edge of a massive cliffhanger, and I’m not happy about it—but in the best way possible! I can’t wait for the next book to come out.
